dc.descriptionThis research seeks to validate the theory of the adoption of the maternal role proposed by Ramona Mercer. We studied the association of the adoption of the maternal role with the trimester of pregnancy, the stage of the puerperium, and variables of the maternal profile such as age, marital status, occupation, educational level and ethnicity, applying Ramona Mercer's theory. Quantitative, analytical, exploratory, retrospective, and transversal approach methods were applied in this research. A sample size made up of 22 mothers with children under one year of age was selected using non-probability or intentional sampling. A questionnaire was prepared by the researchers and administered to the sample. the information obtained was processed and analyzed using the SPSS version 25 program. The results showed a sign of attachment was identified in pregnancy (anticipatory stage) in 68% of the sample, at birth of the newborn (formal stage) in 65%, in the middle puerperium (informal stage) in 42% and in the late puerperium (personal stage) in 91%.  For each of the following cohorts: occupation (outside the home), marital status (united), age of the 75th percentile (26 years and younger), race (Caucasian) and educational level (university) a statistical association with adoption of the maternal role was found. For other cohorts of the tested variables, no statistical association with adoption of the maternal role was found.  This research serves to promote advances in the application of nursing care through the validation of Ramona Mercer’s theory of adoption of the maternal role while also establishing training and conservation measures of the protective factors of attachment that were identified.en-US
dc.descriptionEsta investigación busca validar la teoría de la adopción del rol materno de Ramona Mercer que describe cuatro estadios para este proceso. Objetivos: estudiar la asociación de la adopción del rol materno con el trimestre del embarazo, la etapa del puerperio, y variables del perfil materno como edad, estado civil, ocupación, nivel educativo y su etnia; aplicando la teoría de Ramona Mercer. Materiales y métodos: enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo analítico, exploratorio, retrospectivo y transversal; muestra conformada por 22 madres con sus hijos menores de un año, muestreo no probabilístico o intencional. Se utilizó un cuestionario como instrumento elaborado por los propios investigadores. La información obtenida fue procesada y analizada en el programa SPSS versión 25. Resultados: Se identificó señal de apego en el embarazo (estadio anticipatorio) en el 68% de la muestra, con el nacimiento del recién nacido (estadio formal) en el 65%, en el puerperio mediato (estadio informal) en el 42% y en el puerperio tardío (estadio personal) en el 91%. Todas las variables, ocupación (fuera del hogar), estado civil (unida), edad del percentil 75 (26 años y menos), raza (caucásica) y nivel educativo (universitario); resultaron asociadas estadísticamente a la adopción del rol materno; no así el resto de las cohortes de cada variable.    El aporte de la investigación se enmarca en la aplicación y validación de teorías del cuidado de enfermería, permite también establecer medidas de capacitación y conservación de los factores protectores del apego que fueron identificados.
